Pastor John Fleming stands as the sixth shepherd of Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church (PMBC), called to the pastorate in 2020 following the retirement of the esteemed Pastor Emeritus, Rev. Rogers Allen. Ministry and leadership run deep in Pastor John’s lineage; he is the son of the late, well-respected Kansas City metro community leader and pastor, Lloyd Greene Fleming. Carrying forward this rich mantle of faith, Pastor John stepped into his role during a season of profound global and local uncertainty.
Taking the helm of a historic, intimate congregation with an aging membership, he was immediately tasked with navigating the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Guided steadfastly by the Holy Spirit, Pastor John shepherded his flock through trials and tribulations, ensuring the spiritual and physical preservation of his congregation. His vision has not only sustained the church but positioned it for the future. Under his leadership, PMBC successfully secured its 501(c)(3) non-profit status. Furthermore, working hand-in-hand with Brother Tony Adams—the church's last remaining charter member—Pastor John successfully established the Madam C.J. Walker School Restoration Project. They both have been instrumental in effort to have Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church officially designated as nationally recognized historic place, a goal that was realized in June of 2026.
Pastor John’s ministry is distinctively harmonized by his lifelong devotion to making a joyful noise unto the LORD. Prior to his pastoral call, he founded and led the national touring gospel group, Voices of Inspiration, writing and recording over 30 original compositions. Today, that rich background continues to pay dividends for PMBC, where Pastor John serves as both the spiritual shepherd and the chief musician. Demonstrating extraordinary dedication, he taught himself to play the piano and continues to organize, direct, and nurture the church's developing praise and worship team alongside fellow musicians.
From the piano bench to the pulpit, Pastor John serves as a true maestro, delivering both an anointed melody and a transformative Word from on high.
Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church and the Walker School Project are profoundly blessed to have Pastor John Fleming at the helm. Ordered by God’s divine will, his vision for the future is undeniable. The PMBC family remains anchored in love, resting their trust in the vision God has given to their devoted pastor.
